The Slippery Rock University community is mourning the loss of one of its students, Will Apgar, who tragically died by suicide in Butler County, Pennsylvania.

Will was pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Safety Management at Slippery Rock University, where he was on track to graduate in December 2025. A hardworking and determined student, he was admired for his focus and dedication to creating safer workplaces and helping others through his chosen field.
Outside the classroom, Will had already begun building a promising career path. He gained valuable experience with Southwire Company in Atlanta, Georgia, where he served as an Environmental Health and Safety Intern from May to August 2025, later stepping into the role of Environmental Health and Safety Clerk. His colleagues and mentors recognized his professionalism and the passion he brought to every project.
Those who knew Will describe him as a thoughtful young man with a kind presence and a strong sense of responsibility. His sudden passing has left friends, classmates, professors, and coworkers devastated, struggling to come to terms with the loss of a life filled with so much promise.
The university has extended its condolences to Will’s family and has made counseling services available for students and staff impacted by his passing.
His death is a reminder of the silent struggles many face, even while appearing strong to the outside world.
